Hello neighbors and friends,

Today Pat and I ventured out of the snow to town and discovered Paolucci's Italian Bar and Grill in downtown Boone next to Murphy's in the High Country Bank Building where there is easy parking.

In the 70s and 80s, I did restaurant criticism for Holiday Magazine (The Holiday Fine Dining Awards) and the Insiders' Guide series.  In New Orleans, when we lived there, I was a major restaurant critic.  So we have had a lot of restaurant experiences.

In and around Boone, there are few places for good, dependable meals, and we rejoice when we find one.  Today at Paolucci's, we enjoyed excellent food for lunch that was also an exceptional value.  I had the chicken parmesan, and Pat had the scampi.  The place is a bit out of the way, and hidden from street view within the bank building, so it is going to need a lot of "word of mouth" to attract patrons.  We, for two, want to see this restaurant succeed so it will be there when we want Italian.

We liked the atmosphere of the primary dining room, and we especially enjoyed meeting Carl Paolucci and his son and daughter.  Carl has been a restaurant professional since the 1970s.

Please give Paolucci's a try and help them get established in this difficult restaurant market.  We need to support the good places when we find them.
